Mostly people who have enjoyed my writing at American Thinker, I imagine.
I am dying from a rare disease and, as the current cliché has it, I’m out of f’s to give. And I think a lot about the current political scene and life in general and have ideas that I want to share with others, and draw on a wider range of topics and data than would be possible with the publication I founded two decades ago.
In my life before AT focused me on politics 7 days a week, I was first a scholar of Japan, studying and then teaching at Harvard. I also picked up two other disciplines there, in order to better understand the object of my fascination, Japanese business organization and management. I want to bring up what I learned in my studies of Japan, of business, and of organizations.
Writing for American Thinker would take a lot of time and effort, plus I would have to meet their editorial standards and go through their editorial process, which (because they have high standards) can be time consuming.
So, I am unleashing myself, no longer worried about disgracing American Thinker with my foolishness.
This Substack is also therapeutic, serving as my mental gym. I don’t want to look bad in front of others, so I force a mental workout on myself writing here.
No promises about daily, but we’ll see. I’m not in shape, but if my theory holds, maybe.

My best to you. Ten years ago, a doctor told me I’d likely never walk again. A car accident that was not my fault left me with a broken back, sternum, ribs, arm, wrist, with a torn bladder and a concussion. I said, “Watch me.” Big words for someone in a wheelchair who could not feel nor move his legs. I walk, I bike, I exercise with free weights (life long). I cannot run but otherwise, with concentration, walk around with nary a sign that I went through months of very painful rehab. I’ve learned this: Never trust a doctor. Use them sparingly as needed. Long ago I l also learned this: You must kick life in the ass - it is the only way forward. (plainsenseandsanity.substack.com)
